The European sovereign cloud. GDPR by design, competitive pricing.

Talk to us about OVH

OVHcloud is Europe's largest cloud provider — headquartered in France, operating its own data centres and global fibre network. Built for organisations that need European data sovereignty, GDPR compliance by design, and the economics of bare metal at cloud speed.

Advantages

True European data sovereignty

All data stays in EU jurisdiction. OVHcloud operates its own data centres with no dependency on US hyperscalers — critical for GDPR, DSGVO, and public sector requirements.

Bare metal at cloud speed

Dedicated servers provisioned in under a minute. Bare metal performance without noisy-neighbour issues, with cloud-like management APIs. Best price-to-performance for compute-intensive workloads.

Significantly cheaper for persistent workloads

For VMs and dedicated servers running 24/7, OVHcloud is often 40-70% cheaper than equivalent AWS or Azure instances. No egress fees between OVHcloud services.

Anti-lock-in philosophy

OVHcloud actively champions open standards, reversibility, and cloud portability. Move your data out at any time without egress penalties. Aligned with the GAIA-X European cloud initiative.

Strong EMEA latency profile

Data centres in France, Germany, UK, Poland, Singapore, and the US. Excellent latency for European end-users, and improving APAC coverage.

Disadvantages

Smaller managed service catalog

Far fewer managed services than AWS or Azure. You will manage more of the stack yourself or integrate third-party tools for message queues, ML, and specialist data services.

Developer experience still catching up

The OVHcloud control panel and APIs are functional but less polished than AWS Console or Azure Portal. Terraform support is improving but not yet on par with hyperscalers.

Smaller partner and tool ecosystem

Fewer certified partners, less community documentation, and a smaller third-party integration ecosystem. Talent familiar with OVHcloud specifically is rarer.

Support quality is tier-dependent

Below the Business support tier, response times and support quality can be inconsistent. Enterprise customers have much better experiences than small accounts.

Typical use cases

  • 1European SaaS products where GDPR compliance must be guaranteed by design
  • 2French and European public sector workloads (HDS, SecNumCloud)
  • 3High-performance computing and rendering on bare metal
  • 4Organisations with policies restricting US cloud provider use
  • 5Cost-optimised hosting for persistent, compute-intensive workloads

Best for

European companies, public sector organisations, healthcare and financial services in the EU, and any team where data sovereignty and GDPR compliance are non-negotiable — not just a checkbox.
